Part of 4C

Mayo Lobster, originally uploaded by crassus08.

Okie this is the lobster... grabbed from a special at Kushinbo's. The last time was many many years ago when i was still a CI.

I could still remember CI Rongfa talking to me about stars and about mornings at the old npcc campsite. Then minqiang was also talking to me about that when the npcc campsite got renovated into its current size.

I guess in those days we had more of such intimate sessions with our seniors, talking our hearts out about things and life. Maybe our unit were very small then... that permitted time for such things.

Things are so very much different now.. our unit is 100 over strong and it is not often that we get time to share about things in our hearts.

Will any of you come and talk to me about the things that linger inside?

Bracing Ourselves for the Rain!

Lake Matheson, originally uploaded by crassus08.

Well we went to this place, i think in 2004. Woke up early in the morning around 6 or 7 am and prepared a walk into the lake to catch the scenery. Lake Matheson is situated en route from Franc Josez and Fox's Glaciers if i remembered correctly... but well.. it was not this clear when we were there. This picture was taken by one of our friends who was there at another date.

But the scenery was still great even when it was hazy. What is your take on them?

Exams are here for all of us because it is supposed to serve as a gauge on how much we have learnt. However it evolved to become an indicator of excellence; that you are labelled as a success if you perform well in one.

An exam does not give any indication of the character of the person taking it and neither does it show any signs of personality in a person perhaps except for the handwriting that the testee produces.

In ancient China exams rose to become a standard whereby officials are chosen to run the country based on a set of books written by famous personalities such like Confucius and other philosophers or learned men.

The West followed suit and soon examinations became the universal measure of capability. True enough, there are success stories of people who did not manage to meet the standards, and most often than not they are huge success stories that can be so easily quoted by word of many. But how many of the fallen have actually made that take?

Moral of the story? ---- Unless you are really sure you can make it out big without a good educational qualification, the best is still to stick within and excel.

That is my take on examinations.

Today is NPCC Day Parade

My friend says that my postings are generally very ideological and fuzzy. This may not be a very good thing to be done since i want to share my thoughts with people around me, especially for 4 Charles. So i guess i might have to write simpler things that can be easily understood.

Today i seemed to have seen a glimpse of myself many years back. It was also NPCC Day Parade and i was right at the same place. Many trainings had taken place before that and each training was itself a gruelling experience. Our entire squad was in the Guard of Honour Contingent and some of our secondary 3 juniors were also with us.

However i had failed to march in the parade square on the actual day.

I was suffering from a really bad cough and each time i coughed, my body would shake uncontrollably. Thus i had to make the painful decision to let another reserve to stand in for me. I took over the camera and i took down shots of my unit marching off in the TRACOM parade square.

It was a mix of emotions when i saw them march off at that time.

It would be my last parade in the unit, and very soon I would have to leave the juniors of whom i had grown to love. They seemed all so ready to take over then. I was leaving. My squadmates are marching off in their smart no.1 uniform. I was holding the camera. The crowd was cheering. We are the no.1 Gold Unit. We sang the school song proudly and loudly in front of all the people at the place. We... ....

Why would i sacrifice the chance to be on the parade square? Especially when i had not missed a single training session? Even if I was subjected to tremendous pressure to be leading the entire sec 3 and 4 squad every time to the training sessions? To pull it through the trainings even if my fellow peers might be sabotaging now and then through not attending trainings or just plainly making things difficult?

It is now that i realised, I did not want to walk the last distance. I did not want to experience the final glory that would lead me to my exit from a place and from people whom i have grown to love so much.

But wish as i might, time does not hold still for anyone. So treasure it is that we must do for the things that we love and sacrifice for what we hold dear. I have chosen this CCA to be a commitment, and as commitment it shall remain.

What is the Marist Spirit?

It is when we feel as a community. Kim Ki-duk could be thinking of this society as a place whereby people are generally unhappy about life, acting about their daily lives in a mundane manner, or even just plain boring folks going about their lives in the same way day after day.

Perhaps a change in the monotony by going on a trip, and getting back angrily because they might be doing something that they are reluctant to do subconsciously? Or that damaged things are just left as they are because everyone is too busy to do anything about them. So is there that certain someone who will just clear up the mess?

How about being totally unseen by anyone? How about getting back at seemingly important in their own psyche, in their very sanity? How about differentiating between dreams and reality? The ice cream flavours did not change but change does time, but it has been said that a single scoop of an ice cream would require a 2.4 km run to digest -- that consuming ice-cream is a really bad thing to be doing.

I chose to ignore that particular opinion.

I walked towards the vehicle, and i saw the face of the ice cream vendor and i heard him say:"wow now thats a big one for you. Are you sure you can finish it?" The little boy seemed a bit perplexed, perhaps not expecting the vendor to make a statement, or whether to answer the question or not as he handed over a dollar to him.

I greeted him with a smile, and he took my order and to which i went home through the faint sound of the rain. I thought, how could this ice-cream man understand the 2.4 km digestion process? How could he think of ice-cream as the source of health hazards when it is his very own livelihood? How can it even be branded as a bad thing when he was trying to ask the boy if he enjoyed his ice-cream?

Are certain things really as bad as what we make them out to be?

A Blossom of Yellow...

Doing Dyeing, originally uploaded by crassus08.

It was in India when we were brought to this carpet and cloth dye factory whereby the process of dyeing was shown (with the hint that we should buy something of cos), and it was quite an eye-opener. But then as the form teacher it is not easy to just let go and let them do it on their own right?

How can we be rest assured when students in general can just pick up their books and read in november when the exams are due in dec for papers like Chinese? Does it sound familiar to you? Do people really do that? I think if i were to only pick up the book at the last minute, a B or C is the most probable grade that i get.

Nowadays it is not just Bs that can get people through like in the good old days. Top notch results are the only desired ones in the market and i think that is no easy feat to achieve to get A for every subject.

Frankly speaking i think good habit is the key to getting very good results for studies. There is no better way for most of us out there since we are all not geniuses. However in midst of all these hard work and effort, we must not forget to play and to exercise. And i am already trying to maintain one such lifestyle.. so how about you guys? What are the good habits you should start cultivating and are you also starting today?

Worries... ...

Really worried about a few students in my class; they dun seem to be very worried about their own studies, and i dun seem to be able to find a good way to convince them that hard work is the key to success.

Thinking back of how it was when i was a student could be a way to understand how they feel.. maybe.. but when i studied, i studied very hard as i understand that if it were bad results, i would not be able to make it to JC. Then all of my mother's hard work would have gone to vain. It was not simply understanding that it was my responsibility to work hard. It was the very going through of such an ordeal of working day and night and experiencing for myself the typical schedule of mum that really pushed me to the limits.

I would study day and night when exams were near, and without getting any sleep i would go straight into the exam hall and attempt my papers. Come thinking back into what i had done, it would even seemed not human. How could i have achieved that?

Come 2005 and its an entire different setting. The class has 35 individuals and each of these 35 people are all unique. I cannot simply put a single sentence to them and expect all to be able to respond. Yet it cannot be my excuse to not say anything at all and pray that all will just go well as they should. So what should i do? And i think a fresh start deserves a new beginning... was thinking over the things that i share with the people ard me... telling them that the world is already a very sad place to be. All around people are kind and helpful and its really a fortune that i am born here.

So stop thinking that life is unfair and that we are born to suffer, cos we ain't and we are never going to be so unless we allow ourselves to be this way.

Life is full of surprises, and as forest gump always say, "mama says that life is like a box of chocolates, u never know what u are going to get."

Always look on the bright side of life!

p.s: martin pls stop pestering me to change the skin, me ain't got so much time for that okie?

About life?

Dunno why this blog cannot display chinese characters, but i guess it is no longer that important? In fact a lot of things in life are not that specific, if you were to put studies into perspective in this instance.

Many people in the society nowadays are not as happy as we all feel in the world that we think it ought to be. Some people marry to get happiness, some think of marriage as a trap in which to slog our lives in. Some fear marriages but yet also fear the day when they grow old and with no one to take care of.

So what is it that we humans really want? Is this a really negative thought of life? Some religions say that life itself is suffering and some that we are sinners already when we come into the world. Then what is exactly that our mission in life is? How do we achieve happiness?
